Abortion Issues Throughout The World

Abortion is a subject that has been debated for many years. In some countries having abortion is strictly illegal and many people all around the world believe that abortion is a murder. People hold different views on this critical topic and many crises have been raised in almost every country. Following these crises countries had regulations on the laws about abortion. In United Kingdom abortion is allowed until about the 20th week of the pregnancy and it varies in other countries. This is because around 20th week of pregnancy babies start to develop further and they are no longer embryos.

Most religious people believe that abortion should be completely banned. They agree with the idea that it is simply a type of murder and murdering a person is a crime and abortion is just a different type of killing. The supporting idea these people come up with is that, God is the only one who can create life and take them away, so humans should not be interfering with this kind of issues.

Abortion Clinic

Some other, generally non religious people believe that abortion should be not be banned and it should be a personal choice whether a women gets an abortion or not. There could be some cases where the women has no choice but to have an abortion and considering these circumstances some part of the population believe that abortion should never be banned. In countries like China due to high population problems, families are allowed to have only one child. If a women who already has a child is pregnant than that women has to have abortion. This doesn't support the religious view; however as the laws do not allow any more than one child that women have no choice but to get an abortion.

Considering the two different views on abortion, I cannot agree with a particular one of these. As stated above there could be some situations where the women has no choice but to have an abortion and these could be murder, economical difficulties, health problems etc. In this kind of circumstances women should make their own choices. However considering the other view stated, abortion could be seen as a type of killing and taking a life is a sin. Killing is not something that is accepted by all religions in the world, it is not ethical and nobody has the right to take a life away from someone.

Is the Abortion Pill Your Best Option?

Making the decision to terminate a pregnancy is never an easy one, but it's in every woman's interest to know what her options are should she ever be put in a position to choose. There are currently two abortion methods used in clinics: surgical treatment and medical (or pill) treatment. Is the abortion pill right for you? Here are some ways to know.

--How pregnant are you? Your choice is mainly limited based on how far along you are in your pregnancy. The abortion pill (actually a procedure involving taking two separate pills) is usually only administered if you are at 7 weeks (49 days) or earlier. Some clinics will still allow the use of the abortion pill up to 9 weeks' gestation, but the efficacy of the treatment significantly decreases as time goes by. Bottom line: if you are more than 7 weeks pregnant, a surgical abortion is your best option.

Abortion Clinic

--Personal preference is also a factor. With a medical abortion, you will take one pill on your first visit followed by a second pill several days later. The pregnancy is therefore terminated over a period of days rather than instantly as with a surgical abortion. For many women, the idea of terminating a pregnancy relatively slowly is too difficult. If this process sounds like too much for you to handle emotionally, you may want to opt for a surgical abortion instead.

As long as you are less than 7 weeks pregnant, there really is no right or wrong answer to the question: is the abortion pill my best option? It's largely a matter of what "feels" right to you. Make sure to consult with a trusted health care provider to help you decide.

Why Men Should Have No Say On The Abortion Issue

I had a discussion with a close male friend this week who says he is pro-choice - to
an extent. He went on for sometime sharing his views on abortion with me. While he
was talking I realized something very important - unless he is the father of the
fetus, what he says really doesn't matter because he's a man.

It really gets me steamed when a man sits in judgment of a woman who has had an
abortion. I just don't see how a man can speak to this issue at all. Why should men
need to establish any type of position at all on a subject that is clearly feminine by
nature? I know many are already cowering away from this article in fear of hell's fire.
Think about it though, there are several reason why men should not have a say in
what women do with their bodies.

Abortion Clinic

Congratulations Sir, You're Pregnant

For example, men have never had to face the decision of whether they should allow
a child to grow inside them. They have never been in the position of reconciling the
gift of life with the invasion of life. In fact, a man can just impregnate a woman and
walk away, which is exactly what many have done. If a man can have the right to
choose whether he wants the responsibility of fatherhood, shouldn't the woman
have the same choice concerning motherhood?

Men have never been in the position of having a foreign object growing in their
bodies and being told it would be immoral to want that object removed. Men cannot
relate to the feeling personal invasion brought about by an unwanted pregnancy or
the fears of being a single mother. The woman's body is used as a vessel for life,
but it should be each woman's decision as to whether she wants to be a vessel at
that point in her life.

Daddy Isn't Here, Sweetheart

Another reason men shouldn't have a say on the abortion issue is because since the
dawn of time women have carried the majority of the burden of child rearing while
the man pursues his own interests in life. Meanwhile, the wife is tied to the home to
raise the children that both of them created. Men cannot relate to the stifling feeling
that comes from being subjected to living a life as the primary care giver. In fact,
there should be no primary care giver at all, it should be a shared responsibility.
However, when the father is not around, the woman has no other choice.

The woman knows what having a child will mean to her personal life (and yes, her
life does matter too). Sometimes the changes are welcomed, other times the future
is very scary. A man can go on with his life, his career and his own interests with
little worry about his future other than being forced to set up the baby's crib before
the mother goes into labor - if that much. However, the mother's sacrifices and
responsibilities are endless and she knows how important it is to raise children who
are productive members of society. She can't fail - even if he does shrug his
responsibilities.

Men have basically handed over parental responsibilities to the women and walked
away. Even the most well-intentioned father engages in but a small amount of the
parenting responsibilities. The women, with no other choice but to raise the children
since the father is out pursuing his career, or whatever it is that men do when they
are not at home with their families, are forced into a situation that may not even be
what that woman needs to thrive in life. She has no choice.

Does the man care that his selfishness could have a detrimental impact on the
woman? Nope. She's doing what society expects of her and he is doing whatever he
wants. It is especially difficult for women in these days when so many men just
abandon their responsibilities as fathers altogether and leave the woman completely
alone to raise the child as a single parent. Even when a father is physically around,
oft times he is not around emotionally. But again, the woman has no choice.

It Takes Two

The reason it takes both a man and a woman to make a child is because nature
knew it would take both a man and a woman to raise that child. When the man
shrugs his paternal obligation, the woman is left with a burden that wasn't meant to
be shouldered by one person.

So many conservatives believe women get recklessly pregnant and then use abortion
as birth control. This is just a tactic used to justify the imposition of their morals on
other people. Anyone who has ever been inside an abortion clinic knows abortion is
always a last resort for women. It's a desperate move to solve a desperate problem -
not a routine action.

What's even more ironic is that many times these conservatives would be the first to
rush their daughter to the abortion clinic just to save face if she ended up with an
unwanted pregnancy. Then they have the audacity to condemn the women who
choose to not have a baby because they couldn't afford to feed it or didn't want to
raise the child alone. In fact, the guy I mentioned at the start of this article
encouraged his girlfriend to have an abortion because he was afraid of what his
religious parents would think about an illegitimate child. He thinks what he did was
moral, but some abortions are not. Even worse, he is blind to his own hypocrisy.

Men, It's Time To Be A Daddy

It all too ironic that while women have been home raising the children, men have
been in politics making laws concerning women and their bodies. Men have used
their power in politics and religion to control and dominate women by telling us
what they think we can morally do with our own bodies. Imagine the arrogance!
That any man believes he has any place at all tell me what is legal for me to do with
my own body! This is why there needs to be more women legislators and religious
leaders.

I don't see men rushing to change societal expectations for maternal responsibility
concerning child rearing. I don't see them demanding the right to be more
responsible fathers or to play a more integral part in their children's lives. In fact, if
they did then they would be entitled to more say in the abortion issue. But why
should they want things to change? They've got it made in the shade. If things
changed, they'd have to pull their own weight, give up some of their own career
pursuits, and go home at a decent hour to the child waiting for dinner and a caring
hug.

In short, when men start choosing to be fathers, that's when they will have the right
to pipe in on whether women can choose to be mothers. Until then men, your
opinion just doesn't matter.

Abortion - Choice and Life

One of the most controversial topics anyone can discuss is that of abortion. This debate brings up emotional responses with virtually any position one might take.

Time magazine named Margaret Sanger one of the hundred most important people of the 20th century. Sanger was the brainchild behind what is known as Planned Parenthood and she was a champion of women's reproductive rights. She espoused the unencumbered use of birth control and her views on reproduction have gone global. The primary view of choice advocates is that the woman should have full control over her right to reproduce. If there is an unplanned pregnancy then the gestational cycle can be terminated when desired.

Abortion Clinic

The motto often used by those who believe strongly in a woman's right to choose is, "Every child a wanted child." The connotation is that if the child is not wanted then the logical choice would be abortion.

The role of abortion became mainstream in the 1970's in response to the Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized the procedure. Choice advocates praise that ruling because it brought the procedure into the doctor's office instead of back alleys.

Abortion on demand is even heralded as something the government should add to any present or future health care bills they may consider. Obviously in the realm of debate there is another side to this issue. The exact opposite of the choice movement is the life movement.

Life advocates contend that it is the life of the child that is of more importance than the choice of the mother. They further contend that the child ultimately is without choice. Where choice advocates consider the mass growing inside the mother's womb a fetus, life advocates consider it a human being that should have the same rights afforded to the mother.

Life advocates will point to psychological issues such as posttraumatic stress disorder that seems to be prevalent among those who have experienced an abortion. They will also point to an increase in medical complications from the procedure, especially in the teen years.

When the procedure of abortion is described it is often viewed as inhumane.

Add to this the fact that there are a growing number of families wanting to adopt a child, but are finding very few available. Life advocates would suggest that adoption is a much better choice than abortion. If, in fact, the pregnancy is unplanned and the child's arrival would be very inconvenient from a personal life or financial point of view adoption could be an alternative that may prevent potential medical issues for the mother and allow the child to grow up in a home where they will be loved and nurtured.

Many women who have had abortions will recall the date they had the abortion and will have onset depression in much the same way an adult laments the passing of a parent or partner.

It would seem the central issue in the abortion debate is between whether the mother or the child has the most choice, yet even this observation is, in itself, subject to controversy.

Is PIGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis) Another Form of Abortion?

With recent advances in genetics, there are several inherited disorders which can now be diagnosed at a molecular level. For couples who are carriers or affected by any of these conditions and are at high risk for transmitting it to their offspring, it is currently possible to detect the disorder during pregnancy. This is done by one of two approaches: amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (which involves taking a small sample of the placenta at an early stage). However the couples have the dilemma of whether or not to terminate the pregnancy if the genetic abnormality is present. In some cases this may also not be a viable option for religious or moral reasons. An alternative would then be to diagnose the condition in embryos before the pregnancy is established. Only the unaffected embryos would then be transferred to the uterus. This technique is referred to as preimplantation genetic diagnosis and would obviate the need for screening during a pregnancy and hence prevent the physical and psychological trauma associated with possible termination.

Research towards developing techniques for early genetic diagnosis in humans were initiated in the UK in the late 1980s (Handyside et al, 89, Lancet.347. and Dokras et al, 90, Hum Reprod, 5.821.). In vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques are used to obtain ova (eggs) from the mother which are then fertilized in the laboratory with sperm obtained from the father. One or more cells are then removed from the developing embryo 2 to 4 days after fertilization. This highly sophisticated technique called micromanipulation does not adversely affect further development of the embryo. The cells removed are then used for analysis, and the results can be obtained within 12-24 hours. The embryos without the genetic defects are then transferred into the uterine cavity to develop into a normal pregnancy. Almost all genetically inherited conditions that are diagnosed in the prenatal period can also be detected in the preimplantation period. At the 8 cell stage, each cell of the embryo is still totipotent (each cell has the capability of forming an entire new organism). Thus, one cell can be removed for genetic testing without altering the development of the rest of the organism.Diseases which have a high risk of transmission (25-50%) and are usually associated with significant morbidity and mortality can be screened for by this technique. The first report of the successful application of this technique came from the Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK which currently is the centre with the highest number of births following preimplantation diagnosis

Abortion Clinic

Now the UK Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority has given permission to Leeds parents, Shahana and Raj Hashmi, parents of a boy from Leeds who suffers from a potentially fatal genetic disorder that they can use IVF to create a sibling whose cells could cure him. This effectively means that doctors can use the procedure to ensure their next child can provide their son Zain with a viable bone marrow transplant. The process requires doctors to artificially inseminate eggs from Hashmi's parents, then select one embryo that matches his blood type that can produce the antigens needed to fight the disease. Embryos that did not match the correct type would most likely be destroyed.

Doctors say that the odds of success for this procedure are about one in two, but moral and ethical dilemmas surrounding the procedure have meant that the case involves some very complex issues. Effectively, the Hashmi family want to create a child who would be a suitable donor for Zain, who suffers from thalassaemia - a rare blood disorder. This decision comes after the authority decided in principle in December to approve PGD in cases of serious genetic disease, but that all applications by clinics to undertake treatment should continue to be decided on a case-by-case basis only after rigorous examination of the ethical and medical implications of the treatment and the welfare of the children. The case is similar to that of Adam Nash, an American boy conceived in order to provide transplanted tissues to his ailing sister. The procedure raises serious concerns about the ability to identify the gene defect and using a child as a commodity. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority in the uk also recently give permission to Dr Taranissi at the Assisted Reproduction and Gynaecology Centre in London by to use the technique.

When an embryo becomes a person with "human rights" is probably the most controversial debate of our time. It is an issue that has perplexed the wisest philosophers and the average citizen. In Ireland. although our moral attitudes are based on deeply held religious and ethical beliefs, it is becoming difficult to obtain consensus on almost any issue although public policy must ultimately represent an effort to arrive at a reasonable accommodation to differing interests. Despite the Irish peculiarities regarding the wording of the last amendment to our constitution, when human rights and protectability commence should not become an all-or-nothing matter. Some people say prior to implantation that the embryo does not have human form or genetic uniqueness, as it is a growing collection of cells which can divide into two and naturally produce identical twins, it is unable to survive outside of the womb, does not have any organ structures including even a primitive brain and it has no degree cognitive development. They also say that after conception following intercourse some 60 percent of human embryos are discarded by nature at this stage of development, often even before the mother ever realises that she was pregnant. Hence it would be difficult for society to ascribe "rights" to something that has such a high natural mortality. Others feel that the creation, destruction or manipulation of human embryos by any method for any purpose, can never be justified.

Whatever your personal opinion, there is little doubt that the technique should greatly increase the chances of predicting which embryos are likely to result in a successful birth with much greater accuracy and effectively this technique is a big step forward for IVF as it means that doctors can now weed out problem embryos before a woman becomes pregnant. The UK legislation means that problem embryos in certain circumstances can now be discarded, and only those with a good chance of success implanted into the woman's womb. However, this system is far from perfect, and up to 50% of embryos that look normal under a microscope in fact contain defects in their genetic material.

Personally, I believe that in Ireland we need a panel consisting of bioethicists, sociologists, physicians, basic scientists and professionals in public policy to re-examine the sensitive issues surrounding reproductive medicine and embryo research, and then make recommendations about the areas of medicine and science on which the Government should legislate. I also personally believe that the human embryo is precious and deserving of our profound respect because of its enormous potential and both its existence and status shold rest in the moral belief of the couple from whom it came.

My Abortion Story

(Parental discretion advised)

Please forgive me if you find any part of the following message offensive. I realize that, because so many people receive these messages from so many diverse backgrounds, there will be those who have conflicting views regarding the subject of abortion. There will be those of both genders who have been involved with an abortion in some way. They will have their views and I'm entitled to mine as well.

Abortion Clinic

To these, I have this to say: IF abortion is murder as some say, and certainly we all acknowledge murder as a sin, Jesus is the only alternative for having those sins forgiven just as I've had my many sins forgiven, for mine are no less offensive to a Holy God. We've all sinned and have fallen short of His glory, Scripture tells us. So, whether we're talking about abortion, rape, murder, lust, greed, rage, gossip...it's all sin and only the blood of Christ can save any of us.

To those who believe abortion is murder and is, therefore, wrong, I have this to say: I'll stand by as you cast that first stone. People who hurt people are hurting people and need our compassion, mercy and help. NOT a condemning finger pointed at their faces. If you feel compelled to fight for those who cannot defend themselves, don't blow up an abortion clinic or handcuff yourself to one of its doors. Don't carry a bigger sign or yell louder than those across the line. Instead, give them water and set up a portable pavilion to provide shade. Love them and see if it doesn't open up the door for intelligent dialogue and ministry opportunities. They'll know we are Christians by our love. Even our enemies will recognize that. Simply put, what would Jesus do? He died for His enemies.

To those considering abortion, I have this to say: I'm sure you'd agree that in order to make good decisions, we need good information. Agreed? Please consider and even pray about the information contained herein. Go to Pro-Life as well as Pro-Abortion websites, bearing in mind that they cannot both be right. People are either lying to you or telling you the truth. That's the way life is. If a statement isn't true, what else can it be but a lie? Right? There are no half-truths or white lies. Something is either true or false, despite today's culture that resists absolutes.

Here's a tip: check out the leadership, the founders from which a group's philosophy flows; its roots. For example, Margaret Sanger founded Planned Parenthood. Her first handbook, published for adolescents in 1915 and entitled, What Every Boy and Girl Should Know, featured a startling afterward in which Sanger wrote: It is a vicious cycle; ignorance breeds poverty and poverty breeds ignorance. There is only one cure for both, and that is to stop breeding these things. Stop bringing to birth children whose inheritance cannot be one of health or intelligence. Stop bringing into the world children whose parents cannot provide for them.

Personally, I cannot side with a woman with a philosophy so contrary to what Jesus Christ taught. You can make your own decision in this same way.

Here's my story.

For 14 years, I was not at liberty to discuss the details of which you are about to read. The contents of this article are being written and spoken about openly with permission in recognition of the fact that others my be helped. Hopefully, many others.

I became a serious Christian in February of 1987. Prior to that, I had merely "played" at being one and went through my own series of self-righteous, often sickeningly pious, religious motions. By all outward appearances, I was a better "Christian" than most Christians. Fact was, I was married to my work as an Art Director in the crazy world of Dallas advertising. I went in early and came home late and, though I was faithful to my wife, I shared more of my soul - my mind, will and emotions - with the ladies at work than I did with my own spouse, the mother of my 3 small children. My family got second-best from me. Maybe even third.

One Saturday afternoon, my wife came home from running errands and tearfully told me an awful truth: she had become pregnant through an extramarital affair she was having. She had gone out to have an abortion that morning - an abortion that her lover was "kindly" willing to pay for - but she simply could not go through with it. While both of us cried, I forgave her as I had already made up my mind long ago that abortion was wrong. More on that in a moment.

A few weekends later, my wife had taken our three children to visit their grandmother out of town, leaving me all alone with my thoughts. What I'm about to tell you are the ONLY details that I can actually recall regarding a telephone call I had late that night with a Catholic priest whom I had apparently gotten out of bed to take my call. I needed to talk to somebody - ANYBODY. Having been raised a Catholic, calling a Catholic Church out of the Dallas, Texas phone book was all that felt comfortable to me at the moment.

I couldn't locate that priest again in a million years. He may have been an angel for all I know. One thing I'm sure of is that God gave him the exact words to speak to me at that precise moment in time. After sharing with him the details, plus the fact that I had since decided to raise the child as my own, he sighed and said, "Wow, Mike...you know, Joseph raised a baby that wasn't his...."

Friends, that was ALL I needed to hear. I knew in that instant that, with God's help, I could manage. I do not recall any more of the conversation. I do not recall even saying 'good-night.' What I DO recall was turning around to see who was in the room with me as I suddenly felt a very distinct presence. As I turned back around, I felt the Lord's arms wrap around me in a warm, reassuring embrace.

I was experiencing a peace that passed all understanding.

Sixteen years later, that little girl is a beautiful high school sophomore of whom I am very proud. Though her mother eventually divorced me while the child was an infant, eventually re-marrying a completely different man, only two years ago, she and her husband and I agreed it was time to tell the young lady - our daughter - the truth. Currently, she is forming a relationship with her birth-father, his wife and her two sisters. By God's grace, the best has been made of an absolutley trying situation.

One look at her and anybody would wonder how anyone could - even for a minute - have considered abortion as a viable option.

(There is MUCH more statistical data regarding abortion, incest, and the right-to-life issue that cannot fit in this section. Therefore, I now present the closing paragraphs Please write me at team1min@aol.com and request the remainder of the article. Thanks!)

What can Christians do?

I have resisted the urge to broadcast regarding this topic for a long time. Too political. Too emotional. Not spiritual enough. But the Lord has apparently given me the green light. I HAD to obey.

I could never have aborted the wonderful, beautiful young woman I raised from birth and know today. I've given her my name and she is my daughter and she calls me 'dad'.

I have met the former Evangelist-turned-talk-show-host of Life Today, James Roberson, himself a product of the rape of his mother. His ministry is feeding and clothing neglected children across the world. Millions of children have been touched by this man's ministry.

In the early days of Christianity, when Roman orgies were often producing unwanted children, these newborns were often tossed over the wall to be devoured by wild anmals or die of exposure. It was Christians who would gather up these children and raise them to know and love God.

Moses was a baby who was saved as a result of a woman with a heart of compassion, and he eventually led the children of Israel out of Egypt. Jesus himself was raised by Joseph, a man who was not His biological father. All of us who have come out of darkness and into the glorious light of Christ have received the Spirit of adoption and are now the sons of God, co-laborers with Christ, heirs to the throne, and brothers of Jesus.

Raise a baby that is not your own? Assist those who do? In these dark and evil days, where 4500 babies are being aborted EVERY DAY,such situations are more and more likely to occur and touch many of our lives. There IS another way - not a politically correct way, but a CHRISTIAN way - of looking at these situations. As always, as in every instance, there remain no natural answers to this spiritual problem. We cannot lobby, vote or protest these problems away. People need more from the Church than that.

They need what we Christians claim that we have; the answer to all the world's problems. They need Jesus.

Once again, the Body of Christ, this Army of God, must resist the urge to merely REACT to a situation. Rather, we must ACT according to the example our Savior has set for us.

(Prov 31:8) "Open your mouth for those who cannot speak, and for the rights of those who are left without help."

My Abortion Story

Since 1999, Pastor Michael Tummillo has been broadcasting his eMail messages to tens of thousands of people across the planet. Possibly, millions as a result of FORWARDS. Not only are other on-line ministries posting his messages, but others are publishing his articles in their newsletters and newspapers and teaching and preaching from them.

The Abortion Issue

This is a very difficult topic to approach from any angle. At the heart of it is the matter of life and death. That is what it all boils down to. Does an unborn fetus have the basic right to live? The right to life permeates other issues in our society as well, but none more than that of abortion. I like to think that in all of our hearts, the question of whether or not someone has the right to live is an easy one to answer. The obvious answer would be yes. And yet things are never that simple. The problems arise when one considers the underlying issues that exist. The issue becomes even more difficult when religion is brought into the discussion. One of the driving forces behind the anti abortion movement is the church. To them abortion is murder, plain and simple. In their opinion only God should have the right to decide who lives, and who dies. There is also the concept of an eye for an eye, which is why the death penalty is accepted by some in the religious community as acceptable. This does not apply to abortion, because an unborn child represents the purest form of innocence. The unborn child has not had a chance to harm another or do anything for that matter, because it has not been born yet. So then why should its life be ended before it even begins?

One then has to consider the reasons for why someone would choose to have an abortion. The biggest reason is simply the woman or couple is not ready to be a parent. The pregnancy was not intentional, and the baby is unwanted. Why then would they not opt to put the child up for adoption once it is born? Again, there are many societal issues to that question. The human race is not sitting on the brink of extinction. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Why then bring one more person into this world, to take up space and consume resources? Another reason a woman may opt for abortion over adoption is fear. Fear of what may become of the child. We have all heard horror stories of what has happened to a child in the care of a foster or adoptive family. Rather than risk a horrific life for their unborn child they would rather terminate the pregnancy. The final reason a woman would opt for abortion over having the child is simply to avoid the nine months of pregnancy followed by a painful birth. These may seem like selfish reasons. After all if you don't want a child than be more responsible. Use birth control pills or contraception, and then you don't have to worry about getting pregnant. This could be your opinion, but it still does not change the fact that we have not walked a mile in the other persons shoes. We don't know what the circumstances are and at the end of the day, it is their choice not ours. The woman or couple is the one that has to deal with giving birth and raising the child. Perhaps a woman's choice of abortion is a more noble one. She may be at a point in her life where she realizes that she is not responsible enough to raise a child. Perhaps she is not financially able to raise a child. Opting for abortion rather than having her child starve or go without. Let us not forget the issue of rape. If a woman is raped and a pregnancy is the consequence of that rape than a whole host of new issues come up. She may want an abortion simply because she can not bare the thought of raising the child of a man that did that to her. Maybe she is someone that never planned on having children. Why then should she be forced to raise a child born out of such a violent act, one in which she had no choice? There then are also the genetic component to abortion. A couple may opt for an abortion even though it was a planned pregnancy. The couple may have been trying to have a child, only to find out there is some danger to the mother. Perhaps there is some genetic defect that would warrant abortion. The parents may even be against it only to concede at the doctors behest.

Abortion Clinic

People have other reasons in support of the anti abortion movement. In there mind it is simply wrong to kill a child. In their mind, murder is murder, and so they are against abortion, the death penalty, and so on. The funny thing is that some people get so worked up by the anti abortion movement that they take matters into their own hands. These people are what we call fanatics. They believe so strongly in their cause that they are willing to kill to make their point. Of course they are against abortion, because it is murder and the bible frowns upon murder. An so they choose to murder to make their point? That makes sense. Thus, every now and then we see in the news that someone shot a doctor who performs abortions outside of his clinic. It was not the first time, and I doubt it will be the last. And, yes; I know. An eye for an eye, so they may feel justified, because in their mind they are only killing someone that commits murder on a daily basis.

Then there is the philosophical and medical component to the abortion issue. At what point does and unborn fetus become alive or fit the definition of life? Some would argue that the second the sperm penetrates the egg, the deed is done and life has begun. Others would say that it does not count until the child is out. They would have a strong point simply because we do not celebrate our conception dates in our society, we celebrate the day we left the womb. Thus, each one of us are technically nine months older than our birth dates. There is no clear cut definition of life, but life is generally thought to include the processes of homeostasis, organization, metabolism, growth, adaptation, response to stimuli, and reproduction. How does an unborn fetus stack up from the moment of conception. It exhibits organization, metabolism, adaptation, and growth from the start. One cell divides into two, then, four, then eight, and so forth. This would be the organization as the new life grows. As it divides it grows, it metabolizes to grow. As it continues to develop it will start to respond to stimuli. The ability to reproduce will not come until the child hits puberty. Unless of course the child is a genius and manages to clone him or her self at the age of six. In a sense then it can reproduce before it reaches puberty. Why did I mention this far fetched scenario? Simply, because it helps us get a better grasp on the terms we use to define things. We include reproduction in our list of criteria for life, but what does this really mean? Does this mean then that a machine, that duplicates it self is alive? We will answer that question with a no, although a strong argument can be made that a machine can be alive and that our thoughts about life may be a bit in-accurate. Given the criteria we set to try, and define life an; unborn fetus fits the definition of life from the moment of conception.

We then try to approach the abortion issue from the aspect of awareness. We ask the question, "At what point does the fetus develop a brain"? We ask this, because many feel at this point the fetus qualifies as a living being. Some people believe the brain houses the soul or is the center of who we are. All that we are is dependent upon this most important of all organs. Essentially the brain is a super computer, the most sophisticated one in existence. And we each get one, how lucky are we? Once the fetus gets one of these, then it could be argued that it is now alive. Of course the development of a brain is important, because now we have to wonder if the unborn fetus can feel pain at this point. We all feel pain, because signals are sent to the brain where it is interpreted accordingly. Without a brain then how can it feel the pain of the abortion process? If you can't feel the pain, than there should not be a problem.

Which brings us back to the central question and what the debate comes down to. What we are really concerned about is how we feel about abortion, and not the actual act. Depending on how each one of us was raised, what values we were instilled with, or our own conscience; or lack there off, we formulate our opinion on the subject. The issue is raised and presented to us by others and then we choose sides based upon a number of reasons that are our own. Someone that approaches the issue from a religious base, may feel that abortion is wrong only because their bible tells them so. I doubt the bible mentions abortion directly, but it does frown upon murder. If you approach it from a view point that we are all entitled to live, than you are against abortion based upon a personal moral code. Supporters of the abortion issue tend to think more about the rights of the mother. Its her body and hence her choice. These people tend to think that it is really none of their business and look to science to put their minds at ease. As long as the fetus is not developed enough, than abortions are fine with them. I personally believe that abortions need to be treated on a case by case basis. There are always extenuating circumstances, information that most of us are not aware of. Do I feel that a woman has the right to choose? Yes, I do, but as I pointed out earlier, the father should be included in the decision. In cases of rape, than of course the decision lies solely with the mother. In cases where the mother's life my be in danger, than again I agree with the right to have an abortion. In all other cases, I still believe in a woman's right to choose. I'm realistic and I know that not everyone should be a parent. In deed there are a lot of people in this world that should not have children, in some cases there should be a law against them reproducing. And, yet they keep on having children. You need a license to drive, conceal a weapon, permits to wipe your own @#$; and yet anyone can have a kid. So, even though I think that someone may have been irresponsible; they should then have to live with the consequences. That situation can be harder on the kid than the parent. I am in favor of abortions being legal in all states, as long as the practice is regulated by agreed upon legislation.

I have one last thing to say to those supporters of the anti abortion movement. It is your right to take that stance on this issue. So, I support your right to protest, and speak up on the issue. Where I draw the line is those of you out there who feel the need to stand on the side of the road holding up signs with pictures of aborted fetuses on them. I can imagine an aborted fetus is not a pretty sight. Blood and guts usually never is. That being said, it is one thing to share your view point, it is another to cause children to cry and have night mares. You gotta keep in mind that children are seeing those pictures as well. I have seen this happen. Some anti abortion activists were holding up some pictures on the side of the road, a few days before Christmas, along a busy intersection. These were very big pictures, easily seen from far away. My four year old niece was in the car, and fortunately I was able to shield her view from this grizzly scene. Making a statement is one thing, holding up disturbing photos in public is another.

Should A Woman With Bipolar Disorder Have An Abortion?

Abortion, a woman's choice, is not a hard procedure to acquire. In general, if you have some cash, all that's required to get an abortion in North America is setting an appointment. What many women are unaware of when they're making this choice - and of particular concern to those with bipolar disorder - is the potential of intense, negative psychological consequences following abortion.

In the 1970s, in Vancouver, Canada, women considering abortion had to first get the permission of their family doctor, a gynecologist, and a psychiatrist. Some women found that it was the psychiatrist who nixed the procedure, telling them they just weren't capable of handling the trauma and that it would impact them for the rest of their lives.

Abortion Clinic

Since then, things have turned to the opposite extreme. Now that abortion has become both legal and mainstream, it's commonly viewed as nothing more than a simple procedure.

A woman at the abortion clinic will probably not be told of the possibility of severe negative psychological aftereffects. Most women considering an abortion will never be informed of the documented risk factors of abortion, both physical and psychological. Unfortunately, these hidden risk factors can be even more severely damaging to a woman already suffering bipolar disorder.

The possible negative psychological impact of abortion goes by several names: Post Abortion Syndrome , Post Abortion Stress Disorder, Post Abortion Stress Syndrome, Post Abortion Stress, and Post Abortion Trauma. It's categorized as a form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Clinically the recognized diagnosis is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, with abortion as the stressor.

While women in post-abortion counseling have reported over 100 negative symptoms, the ones most concerning to women with bipolar disorder are the tendency to engage in self-destructive acts. In a study of 100 women who suffered PAS, findings reported feelings of self-hatred as most common, followed by drug abuse, and then alcohol. Some women reported becoming addicted to drugs or alcohol following abortion. 60 percent of the women reported suicidal ideation, and 28 percent attempted suicide - half of which attempted suicide twice or more.

Generally the first symptom of PAS is denial. If and when this wears off, there may be grief, followed by depression, anxiety, irritability, and low frustration tolerance leading to the possibility of explosions of anger and even violence. There may be a lack of emotional connection, withdrawal in relationships, and sexual promiscuity.

Those familiar with bipolar disorder will recognize these possible aftereffects as potentially serious complications in this illness. The woman with bipolar disorder is already at risk for most, if not all of these psychological problems before she has an abortion. Having an abortion may in fact be what pushes her over the edge, and drives her to end her life in suicide.

Those who pressure the woman with bipolar facing an unplanned pregnancy into abortion may be well-meaning, but are uninformed about the danger of what they are trying to convince her to do. They may think she is ruining her life and the life of the child by going through with the pregnancy, and consider abortion to be a simple and easy solution. Unfortunately, as the studies show, it's not quite so simple. Abortion may in fact become the factor that ruins the life of the woman predisposed to mental illness.

Even those who refute the existence of Post Abortion Stress/Trauma will admit that generally the women most negatively impacted by abortion are those who have lower self-esteem to begin with, those who underwent the abortion in circumstances of extreme pressure or abandonment, and those who had a mental illness before abortion.

In other words, even those who argue against the possibility of a negative traumatic impact following abortion are saying that women who aren't stable to begin with may experience this same negative psychological effect. This brings us back to the abandoned logic of the 70s, when psychiatrists had to OK abortions.

Unfortunately, despite documented statistics and studies of women who have experienced abortion, many psychiatrists are uninformed about the possibilities of the negative psychological impact of abortion - and even have been known to recommend it to women suffering from bipolar disorder.

Do it Yourself Abortion

NO-WAY!
Don't do it.
Never do it!

Don't ever even think about it.

Abortion Clinic

Never listen to dumb advice about doing it.

Perhaps having a safe abortion in a clinic is better than suffering death from infection of a do-it-yourself abortion, but any abortion is worse than having an unwanted baby.

STOP and try to think clearly. An abortion is seldom the best choice.

This is the moment when every girl or woman needs to try hard to put away her confusion, embarrassment, and fear...and look at "every" option. Now is the time to consider making some other person happy.

There are many women who suffer the loss of a child through miscarriage, medically required abortion or still-birth and now can now never give birth to a child of their own. They would love to have a baby; perhaps yours.

This is the time to at least try to think of the rights of un-born child. Be brave and talk to a priest, doctor, or friend and seek advice on how you can save your baby and make another human happy.

Even during a crisis God knows the suffering a person is enduring and will give you guidance...if only you ask. You will make Him happy if you protect this life... your baby.

Probably most women and girls who try the "do-it-yourself" abortion do it because of religious and social restrictions that make a safe abortion in a hospital a criminal offence.

Another reason so many people, especially younger girls, try the "do-it-yourself" abortion (or throw the newborn into a trash can)...is because of embarrassment. They are ashamed to face their parents and friends. This is another example of how important Effective Sex-Ed is.

Women and children all over the world resort to cruel, painful, dangerous "do-it-yourself" abortions because of illogical social religious restrictions. There is probably no city or village in America that doesn't have an underground network of names and addresses of the "witch-craft" old women who can give you an herb or pill or help you with a crude, unsafe abortion. While this might normally be better than awful advice from a friend who says, "Just carefully insert the smooth end of a coat hanger until you feel it happen." it is still very dangerous.

This is the time to try hard to think of logical alternatives.

In Mexico, officials estimate that 1500 women die each year from "do-it-yourself" abortions. Abortion is a criminal offence in Mexico). Yet it is estimated that 850,000 illegal abortions are still performed every year. In Mexico 96% of the population are Christians and of these 92% are Catholics.

Laws and religious restrictions against abortions naturally hurt the poorer and less educated more than the affluent people.

Those who can afford the expense can easier find a doctor to perform a safe illegal abortion for the right fee in most any city...anywhere in the world.

It is very customary for the more affluent to send their daughters, girlfriends or wives quickly to another country (on a vacation) to get an abortion, so that families and friends "never know".

Effective Sex-Ed can teach all people, especially girls, how to avoid a situation that requires an abortion by knowing how to avoid pregnancy. This is the logical answer. Silly, illogical, man-made religious doctrine that condemns masturbation, condom use and birth control...strongly encourages abortions.

Everyone of every age (even very young children) have strong sexual desires and will find ways to satisfy these desires. They should. This is God's Plan. God created us humans. We humans are taught that God is Perfect. If we believe what we preach, then how can an honest and intelligent person ever condemn masturbation. Sexual intercourse is ignorant sex for children. Masturbation is sex and is clean and safe...and is the perfect alternative to sexual intercourse.

The strongest desire humans have is to satisfy hunger and thirst. The second strongest desire every human has is a need for sexual satisfaction. This is human nature. It is in our genes and DNA. No one can argue with human nature. Wake up Christian brothers and sisters. Be logical. Few things in life are perfect, but logical intelligent adults have a responsibility to at least accept the best of the bad things. Allow fellow humans, especially children, logical alternatives.

If you refuse to make masturbation a 'house hold word', at least show love and teach girls to have enough self-confidence to just admit to family, friends, and the world that they are pregnant...and then cope with the embarrassment as they decide the best solution for their individual situation.

FOR SURE
No coat hanger, no magic herbs,
no illogical advice from friends,
no visits to old women in dark alleys,
no "do-it-yourself" abortion.

Effective Sex Education "yes"
Condoms "yes"
Self-abortion "no"
Adoption "yes" "yes" "yes"
Clinic-abortion "last choice"

Clinic-abortion "yes"
Self-abortion "no"

Most important...consider ADOPTION.

Locating Abortion Information

Getting quality abortion information can be a rather difficult endeavor. Especially with a poor and underserved communities and for teenagers that may fear seeking it out. Much of the information about abortion that is routinely handed out is actually being disseminated by so-called "pro-life" groups masquerading as organizations trying to help young women make the "right choice". They have become proficient in using scare tactics and trickery. One such example of their deception is describing their pro-life believes in what looks like informational literature. Whether they care about you or your baby is really suspect. At times it would appear as if they only care about promoting their own agenda.

To get quality abortion information to a group by the name of Planned Parenthood is an excellent place to start. Their sole function is to assist women in making their own intelligent choices, taking advantage of the freedom over their own bodies that the Supreme Court has declared it is their right. While these anti-abortion groups terrorize women and the doctors that assist them, organizations like Planned Parenthood help out women by giving them good abortion information, as well as information about birth control, and other types of sexual information and they would like to learn more. There is no point subjecting yourself to right wing propaganda, go for reliable, quality information.

Abortion Clinic

I recall having a cousin who at the age of 17 became pregnant unintentionally. The town that she lived in was rather uptight, and didn't have any abortion information that could be of assistance to her. She finally located what was termed as an "abortion counseling" clinic and went there to get abortion information.

What she learned there turned out to really frighten her. They told her that if she were to get an abortion it was likely that she could suffer from complications and maybe even die, that she would regret the decision for the rest of her days, and that her friends and family would find out all about her abortion and disown her out of shame.

Well, as you can imagine this organization had an agenda and it was not about to disseminate abortion information to anyone. Fortunately, because she's a bright girl, she was able to see through their ruse. She and the getting an abortion and as far as I understand does not regret her decision. Her parents never found out about it and it was because of her bully that they would disowned her that she never went to them for help in obtaining abortion information to begin with.
